I was approached by Replicode to design a key art [NFT] ticket that grants customers access to a range of Web3 products & tools.
The key art image needed to include a sci-fi "CPU" and evoke a feeling of genre defining films such as Blade Runner (1982) & Alien (1979).
This retro sci-fi aesthetic of the brief immediately interested me, and I instantly got to work on the project after initial conversations with the client.

Before I got to work with design, I had meetings the client to discuss their ideas, goals for the project, and what they wanted to be included in the key art image. I took the concepts that were discussed during meetings with the client, and began sketching rough ideas using reference supplied by the client, aswell as my own gathered reference. The strongest of these roughs were sent over to the client for approval.
After the rough direction was approved by the client, I began modelling the assets for the project in Blender. I blocked out 3-4 designs based on the rough sketches using simple forms to give the client a sense of what my intentions were for the "CPU" design. After feedback, the client chose one of the block out designs to take to a finished state.
The next stage of the process involved detailing the asset and creating the lighting for the scene. In keeping with the retro sci-fi aesthetic of the project, I wanted to create an intimidating, dystopian feeling to the lighting. The single light in the scene Illuminates the "CPU", but the rest of the scene falls into darkness. This makes for an imposing, almost sinister atmosphere that I wanted to convey with the scene.
